Privacy
Couchpad works between your phone and your computer on your local network. There are no accounts, no servers that see your data, and no analytics or ads.
What stays on your devices
- Pairing keys: your phone and computer each keep their own encryption key and the other's public key. The phone stores them in its secure storage; the computer in the macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager.
- The names of paired devices, so you can tell them apart.
- What you type, pointer movements and media commands go straight from your phone to your computer, encrypted, and aren't stored.
- Track names and volume levels are read on your computer and sent only to your paired phone.
Permissions
- Local network and Bluetooth: to find and connect to your computer.
- Camera: only to scan the pairing code. No photos are taken or saved.
- Accessibility (Mac): lets the helper move the pointer and press keys for you.
- Automation (Mac): lets the helper ask Spotify or Music what's playing.
This website
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for security. The site sets no cookies and loads nothing from other services. Pairing links put the pairing details after the "#", which browsers never send to the server.
Update checks
The phone app and the desktop helper occasionally download a small file from this site (updates.json) to see if a newer version exists. Nothing about you or your devices is sent with that request.
